Due to economic and volunteer constraints, we have decided to
make some pretty drastic changes to Liberty Art 2009;
we are canceling this year’s event and will return in 2010 with a new
expanded and exciting format.
Between now and then, we’ll be teaming up with Waynesboro’s
Downtown Organization Of Retailers (D.O.O.R.) to work on a venture that
will draw more patrons and more attention to the 2010 show – a bird
dog sculpture project similar to Aiken’s horse project and Athens’ bulldog
project. We are seeking local and
regional artists interested in becoming part of this venture and a part of
downtown Waynesboro’s
art history.
Here’s our plan:
We will purchase 10 life-size concrete bird dog statues which
will be decorated by selected artists then auctioned on opening night of
Liberty Art 2010 in conjunction with the traditional show. The dogs will be
displayed in prominent downtown locations for several weeks prior to the
show and will likely remain downtown outside Waynesboro businesses on a permanent
basis, depending on the wishes of the winning bidder.
Selected artists will be asked to personalize their dog sculptures
to an original theme and give the dog a name appropriate to that theme.
Rough sketches or written descriptions, with details about your ideas and
materials you plan to use, are requested to help in the selection process.
Originality will play a large role when our volunteer art jury selects its
10 favorites.
While any medium is acceptable, but please keep in mind that
the dogs will likely be displayed outdoors.
The dogs will be available no later than July 1, 2010 –
allowing artists at least four months before downtown displays are set up.
To offset the cost of supplies, each artist will receive 15 percent
commission from the sales price of his/her dog.
If you are interested in supporting the community in this
artistic endeavor, please complete the form and return it to us for
consideration no later than Dec.
1, 2010. Selected artists will be notified no later than March
1. For those artists wanting to
participate in the Art Show only, applications will be mailed out in
mid-2010.
We hope you will join us in helping to support the promotion
of our community and the longevity of the Liberty Art Show
